Binyam Tilahun is the leader of eHealthLab Ethiopia. He is also an Associate Professor of Health Informatics and Chief Director of Research, Technology Transfer, and Community Services at the University of Gondar. With his research group, Tilahun leads global health informatics projects in the areas of eHealth, mHealth, and Big Health Data with funding from major national and international organizations including: World Health Organization (WHO), Ethiopian Ministry of Health, European Union, and Grand Challenges Ethiopia.
Tilahun and his colleagues developed the first bachelors level health informatics training program in East Africa in 2012. He is currently leading the development of the first PhD in Public Health Informatics program in Africa. He is also leading the Capacity Building and Mentorship Project (CBMP), a three-year collaborative project with the Federal Ministry of Health to provide capacity building and mentorship in the implementation of the information revolution agenda in the Amhara and Benshangul Gumuz regions.
Tilahun completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of the British Columbia in Canada. He has a PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Münster, Germany, and a master’s degree in Public Health with a Health Informatics specialization from the University of Gondar.
