Charles Onu is a PhD student at McGill University and a researcher at Mila – the Québec AI Institute. Onu is interested in the design and development of improved diagnostic and decision-making tools in healthcare through the combination of machine learning and mobile technology. Onu leads Ubenwa Health, a mobile app that seeks to diagnose perinatal asphyxia from the infant cry.
At the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Onu is involved in the APEX project, where he has been developing machine learning algorithms for analyzing cardiorespiratory behaviour of preterm newborns in order to determine their readiness for extubation. At Health Experiences Research Canada, Onu has contributed to the design and lead the development of the HERS mobile app – a personalized recommendation tool for breast cancer patients. Onu is a Jeanne Sauvé Fellow and a Vanier Doctoral Scholar.
